Felicia Woodard belted a two-out triple in the top of the 10th inning Friday, driving home the winning run and salvaging a split for Williams in the AMC championship. The Lady Eagles are vying with William Woods University for the title and a berth in the NAIA national tournament
Williams, the top seed in the tournament, is hosting the best-of-three championship series, which began with a marathon doubleheader on Friday. What were supposed to be seven inning contests became pitchers’ duels that stretched into 12 and 10 innings, respectively.
The Lady Eagles finally chalked up the 2-1 win in game two, after Woodard drove in Mallarie Lee.
WWU claimed the first game, plating a run in the 12th inning to take a 1-0 victory.
Although Williams is hosting the series, the Lady Eagles played as the visiting team in game two, when they batted first.
WBC’s Karisa Hendrix pitched both games in their entirety, a total of 22 innings with no earned runs.
