Beatrice Black Williams, whose husband was the founder and first president of Williams Baptist College, has passed away at the age of 99. Mrs. Williams died Friday in Little Rock. Her funeral will be Monday.
Mrs. Williams was known to share her husband’s passion for the mission of WBC, which was founded as Southern Baptist College in 1941. In addition to being wife and encourager to the school’s founder, she taught classes at the college and as also served as registrar in its early years, often for little or no pay.
Her own career in education spanned over 30 years as she taught at the elementary, high school and college levels.
"The contributions that Beatrice Williams made to this college, and thus to all our lives, are beyond measure. I personally consider it a distinct honor to have known her, and all of us at WBC extend our deepest sympathies to the Williams family in this loss," said WBC President Dr. Jerol Swaim.
Visitation will be Monday morning at 9:30 at Bryan Funeral Home at Hoxie, with the funeral service to follow at 10:30. Burial will be in Lawrence Memorial Gardens in Walnut Ridge.
