Carter’s Corner in Jonesboro is making a major contribution toward a new residence hall being constructed at Williams Baptist College, and a wing of the new building will be named in honor of store owner Jim Carter and his late wife, Joan Carter.
"The Carters have been faithful supporters of Williams since 1993, and their generous support of our new residence hall leaves a lasting legacy in their name. Jim continues to demonstrate his deep commitment to Christian higher education," said Dr. Jerol Swaim, WBC’s president.
The residence hall, which is scheduled for completion later this year, is for female students. The 43-bed facility is being built along Fulbright Ave. on the Williams campus at a cost of approximately $1.75 million.
Swaim noted that the new building will have a Jim & Joan Carter Wing. Carter said he is making the gift in memory of his wife. At Carter’s request, the amount of the gift was not disclosed.
Carter’s Corner is a clothing store in Jonesboro. It specializes in jeans, boots, Western clothes and work apparel.
Williams is a four-year, liberal arts college at Walnut Ridge.
