Eagles and Lady Eagles Fall in Close Games
The Williams Baptist College basketball teams travelled to Batesville, Ark. for a double header against Lyon College on Tuesday evening.
The Lady Eagles lost to the Lady Scots by a score of 73-67.
WBC and Lyon were tied at 35 when the halftime buzzer sounded. The Lady Eagles came out in the second half and built a 59-50 lead with 5:45 left in the game. However, a late rally in the second half saw the Lady Scots walk away with the win. The Lady Scots finish the game on a 23 to 8 run.
Williams shot 35 percent from the field, and 38 percent from three point range. Olivia Morris led the team with 16 points, while making four of six 3-point shots taken.
WBC now has a record of two wins and two losses. They will travel to Henderson State University on November 23.
The men fell to the Scots by a score of 86-80. The Eagles kept the game close throughout the contest, but clutch free throws from the Scots iced the game.
The 80 points scored by the Eagles is the most for the team this year. They shot 39 percent from the field, while holding Lyon to shooting 35 percent.
Phillip Sykes was impressive off the bench in scoring 18 points, 16 of which came in the first half. He made seven of ten shots from the field, and hit all four 3-point baskets attempted. Freshmen Jake Veasley had his best game as an Eagle scoring 21 points with five rebounds and four assists.
WBC now has a record of one win and three losses. The Eagles will travel to Bethel University on November 22.
