Eagles Sports Take on Non-Conference Opponents
Williams Baptist College soccer and volleyball teams participated in non-conference affairs in a relatively quiet week for the sports. Meanwhile, baseball and softball took part in off-season scrimmages last week.
The soccer Eagles traveled to Jackson, Tenn., to play Union University. WBC lost 2-0, with Union scoring late in the first half and midway through the second.
Williams travels to Crowley’s Ridge College on Tuesday. The Eagles put away the Pioneers in their first meeting 13-1 on September 2. WBC’s next home game is October 11, when they host McKendree at 3:00 p.m.
The volleyball team also only had one game this week, a road contest against Lyon College. The Lady Eagles came back to force a 5th and deciding set after losing the first two, but lost 15-11 in that final set. Katie Thomas led the way with 14 kills for the Lady Eagles. Haley Motley contributed 11 kills. Setters Makenna Wiedower and Codie Lancaster had 24 and 17 assists respectively.
The Lady Eagles play two doubleheaders this week, first on the road Tuesday against Hannibal-LaGrange, and then at home Friday against University of Benedictine-Springfield. Friday’s first match starts at 7:00 p.m.
The baseball Eagles had a home scrimmage against Shawnee Community College on Thursday. The Eagles played two seven-inning games, splitting the two with a win and a loss.
Meanwhile, the two-time defending conference champion Lady Eagle softball team kicked off their fall scrimmage schedule with a tournament at the University of Tennessee-Martin. They finished with one win, one loss, and one tie.
