Good Holiday Weekend for Eagles
Labor Day weekend was a good one for the fall sports at Williams Baptist College. The Lady Eagles volleyball squad swept four matches at the Hendrix Tournament in Conway to remain undefeated, while the Williams soccer team rolled to a win over Crowley’s Ridge College.
The volleyball Eagles are now 6-0 on the season after defeating Hendrix and Texas-Tyler on Friday, followed by wins over Central Baptist and LeTourneau on Saturday.
Williams defeated tournament host Hendrix in four sets, 25-22, 21-25, 25-16, 25-19, and then pulled off a close win over Texas-Tyler, 25-19, 23-25, 19-25, 25-19, 19-17.
The Lady Eagles took CBC in straight sets, 25-17, 25-13, 25-22. WBC closed out its portion of the tourney with a four-set win over LeTourneau, 25-14, 18-25, 25-21, 25-13.
Williams displayed a notably balanced attack on the weekend. Katie Thomas led the way with 34 kills and four blocks over the four matches. Haley Motley notched 34 kills and four blocks, while Caitlin Wakefield had 33 kills and nine aces, and Jamea Ward had 31 kills and six blocks.
Kelsey Davault has 67 digs. Makenna Wiedower had 79 assists, while Codie Lancaster had 73 assists.
The home opener for the Lady Eagles will be this Friday, when they host Central Baptist for a doubleheader starting at 4:30 p.m. in the Southerland-Mabee Center.
The soccer Eagles also had a dominating performance Friday, defeating Crowley’s Ridge 13-1 at WBC. Esteban Piccinini had four goals and an assist to pace Williams. Martin Carmona and Lucas Braga chipped in two goals and an assist apiece.
Victor Vouga had a goal and two assists. Adding a goal each for the Eagles were Lucas Camargo, Chris Williams, Harold Owiti and Edwin Irungu. Cody Mathews and Pavle Hajvaz notched assists.
Williams moves to 1-1 on the season. The Eagles are to play at Delta State on Tuesday, and they will return home to host Central Baptist on Friday, starting at 4:00 p.m.
