Harvey and Morris Honored by AMC
Olivia Morris and Kyle Harvey of William Baptist College are this week’s American Midwest Conference Players of the Week in women’s and men’s basketball. The selections were announced Monday.
Morris was picked after leading her squad to back-to-back victories last week. The Lady Eagles are 6-3 this season and are on a four-game winning streak. Morris, a senior, has been a big factor in getting Williams on a winning track. She averaged a double-double at 10.5 points and 10 rebounds per game in two contests last week.
Williams opened up the week on Tuesday with a victory over Lyon College 62-57. The forward from Melbourne, Ark., dropped in 10 points and eight rebounds in the victory and followed that with an 11 point 12 rebound performance against Blue Mountain College on Saturday.
Morris shot 47 percent from the field and 50 percent from beyond the arc and currently leads her team in rebounds, steals and blocks.
Harvey, a junior from Corning, Ark., helped Williams to a 2-1 week last week, bringing their season record to 4-5. The Eagles posted a victory over Lyon at the beginning of the week as Harvey led his squad with 19 points and six rebounds.
In a win over Bethel College the 6-5 forward had a whopping 36 points, shooting 11 of 14 from the field and 13 of 15 from the charity stripe. He also chipped in seven rebounds, three assists and two steals.
In their final contest of the week the Eagles dropped a heartbreaker to Blue Mountain in overtime 92-91. Again, Harvey put up solid numbers with 28 points and six rebounds.
On the week, Harvey shot 56.5 percent from the field and 57 percent from beyond the arc. He logged 83 points and 19 rebounds in three contests.
Harvey leads the AMC in scoring so far this season, averaging just over 20 points through nine games. His scoring also places him 17th in the NAIA in points per game.
