Homecoming/Parents Day is Saturday

10/11/2010

The Williams Baptist College campus will teem with activity on Saturday, Oct. 30, as the school hosts its annual Homecoming/Parents Day celebration. Several reunions are planned, as well as an outdoor festival, athletic events and homecoming coronation.

"We will host reunions this year for the Williams Singers, business majors and English and liberal arts majors, and we will also have an alumni baseball game. It’s going to be a great to day to see a lot of old friends, and we expect a big crowd," said Aaron Andrews, director of alumni relations.

A festival centered on and around Midkiff Lawn will provide activities for parents, alumni and their children. It will run from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

"We will have inflatable games, a rock climbing wall, face art and other activities on the lawn. There will also be a student art exhibit in the Maddox Center, and The Cast and Williams Singers will perform in Manley Chapel," said Mary Norvell, WBC’s parent liaison.

The performance by The Cast, which is the college’s traveling drama group, and the Williams Singers, the WBC choir, will begin at 1:00 p.m. in Manley Chapel.

In addition to the alumni baseball game at 11:00 a.m., the soccer and basketball teams have contests scheduled for the day. The soccer Eagles host conference rival William Woods at 1:00 p.m. The baseball game will be played at Shell Field, with the soccer match on the WBC Soccer Field.

The women’s and men’s basketball teams will both begin their seasons hosting Ecclesia. The Lady Eagles’ game starts at 2:00 p.m., with the men to play around 4:00 p.m. in the Southerland-Mabee Center.

Between basketball games, this year’s homecoming queen and king will be crowned. The coronation will take place at approximately 3:30 p.m. in the SMC.

"Homecoming/Parents Day is always a highlight of our year," said Norvell. "This is a big day with an abundance of activities, and we encourage all alumni, parents and other friends of Williams to be here Oct. 30th."
