Jones Takes Helm as WBC President

Dr. Thomas Jones began work on Monday as the new president of Williams Baptist College. Jones was selected in the spring to lead the 4-year, liberal arts college at Walnut Ridge. He is the sixth president of WBC.

"I have been looking forward to this with much anticipation ever since the announcement was made. It’s great to get in the office and get to work with all of the good people at Williams," Jones said.

Jones is no stranger to Williams, having served as vice president for institutional advancement at the college from 1994 to 2000. He was also active in the community, including Leadership Lawrence County and the Northeast Arkansas Regional Leaders Program.

He is an Arkansas native, and his mother, Helen Jones, currently lives in Dermott, Ark. His father, the late Don Jones, pastored several Baptist churches in the state.

Jones and his wife, Gail, have moved from northern California, where he served as a vice president at Golden Gate Baptist Seminary for the past 12 years. They have a grown daughter and son, who both live in California.

"Gail and I are very pleased to be back at Williams and back in this community. Our family has great memories of this area, and it is so good to be a part of it again. We are very excited about meeting the people of the area, as well as seeing old friends in the weeks and months ahead," he said.

Jones succeeds Dr. Jerol Swaim, who retired as president at the end of June.
