Kenneth Sulcer: 1925-2013
Williams Baptist College lost longtime friend Kenneth Saunders Sulcer on Sunday, December 1, 2013. Dr. Sulcer was 88.
Dr. Sulcer lived most of his life at Mississippi County, where he served as a state representative for 14 years. He was also self-employed all his life and owned Sulcer Real Estate Rentals in Jonesboro and Osceola and Planters Furniture Company in Osceola.
He was named Outstanding Arkansan in 1957 and elected speaker pro-tem of the Arkansas House in 1961. He formerly served as Arkansas representative on the Southern Regional Board of Education and was a candidate for governor in 1966.
Dr. Sulcer was a former member of First Baptist Church in Osceola where he taught Sunday school for more than 25 years. Most recently, he was a member of Central Baptist Church in Jonesboro and served as the teacher for the Wisdom Seekers Sunday school class.
He also served on the board of trustees for WBC for more than 28 years and was chairman of the board for several of those years. In 1992, he was named Arkansas Distinguished Baptist Layman and in 1997 he was inducted in to the Hall of Distinction at Williams.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Central Baptist Church. The funeral service will be held at the church on Wednesday, December 4, at 2 p.m. A private burial will take place in Jonesboro Memorial Park.
