Lady Eagles Down McKendree
The Williams Baptist College women moved into third place in the American Midwest Conference with a home win over McKendree Thursday night, 75-67. In the second game of the doubleheader, the McKendree men defeated the Eagles, 81-62.
Courtney Sublett led the charge for the Lady Eagles with 24 points. Jessica Shepard followed with 15, and Cheyenne Childers had 12. Williams led at the half, 28-25.
The Lady Eagles improved their record to 15-4 overall and 4-2 in the AMC, moving them into sole possession of third place in the conference.
In the men’s game, McKendree jumped to a big lead in the first half and then held on for the win. The Bearcats held Williams to 28 percent shooting in the first stanza and led 37-21 at the half. The Eagles held their own in the second half but were unable to chip into McKendree’s lead.
Kyle Harvey had 15 points to lead the Eagles. Marcus Massey chipped in 13, and Brock Johnston added 10. Wes Livingston pulled down nine rebounds and scored six points.
The loss drops Williams to 8-10 on the season and 1-5 in the AMC.
The Williams teams travel to Harris-Stowe for a conference doubleheader Saturday. They will be back at the Southerland-Mabee Center Thursday to host Columbia for a pair of contests. The women’s game will begin at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, while the men’s tilt starts afterward at about 7:30 p.m.
