Lady Eagles Prep for National Tourney Debut
The Williams Baptist College softball team set aside the sights of Gulf Shores and took to the practice field Wednesday. The Lady Eagles got in an afternoon practice at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex, where the NAIA National Softball Tournament begins Thursday.
“We had a productive day of practice,” said Head Coach Eric Newell. “The team has struck a good balance between having fun while we’re here and focusing on the task at hand. “

Williams begins the pool play portion of the tournament at 10 a.m. Thursday, taking on Webber International University of Florida. The softball Eagles will play Thomas University on Friday and Oklahoma City University on Saturday.
“These ladies are upbeat and looking forward to playing this tournament. It wasn’t like I had to convince that we needed to practice. They were ready to get on the field and work today,” Newell said.
The WBC squad attended the tournament banquet Wednesday night. All 32 teams taking part in the the tourney were represented at event, which had 900 people in attendance.
The Lady Eagles enter their first ever national tournament with a record of 49-9.
