Lady Eagles set Record in Style

4/11/2012

The Williams Baptist College softball team traveled to Crowley’s Ridge College needing to sweep the Pioneers to set a new school record for wins in a season.  Not only did they set the record, they did it without allowing a hit in the second game.

The 15th ranked Lady Eagles won game one by the score of 9-0.  Karisa Hendrix pitched a complete game shutout, allowing one single.  She struck out seven batters in the five innings.

Offensively, Williams collected a total of 11 hits.   Jill Graham hit a homerun and recorded three RBI’s for the contest.  Tori Henson also contributed with two runs batted in.

The win in game one gave the Lady Eagles a tie with the 2010 team that won 32 games in a season.  If WBC won game two, the record would be set.

Williams received a strong collective pitching performance from Shelby Anderson, Hendrix and Caribeth Friedman.  The trio combined for a complete game no-hit shutout.  The only blemish was that two base runners reached on walks.

The Lady Eagles put up five runs in the top of the first.  Graham hit another homerun and drove in three more runs in game two.  She finished the day with two homeruns and six RBI’s.   Laura Tucker also contributed; going 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

WBC is now 33-8 on the season and in first place in the American Midwest Conference. They will play eight AMC contests in five days beginning on Thursday, April 12.  On Thursday, April 12, they will host Harris-Stowe State University in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
