The Lady Eagles put on a power display in both contests. Shelby Anderson hit three home runs on the day, Hallie Horton hit two, and Jill Graham scorched one off the scoreboard in game two.
Anderson entered the afternoon with four home runs on the season; she left with seven. “I really looked to attack the first pitch today. I tried to take what she gave me and make solid contact,” said Anderson.
Not only did Anderson hit the ball hard, she gave up zero runs from the mound. She pitched a complete game, six hit shutout in game one. The freshmen picked up her 18th win on the season. She leads the NAIA in earned run average.
“The long ball helped us today, but it always starts with good pitching and solid defense,” said Head Coach Eric Newell.
Newell sent Karisa Hendrix to the mound in game two and she continued her dominance. She struck out 10 batters on her way to a no-hit complete game shutout. She has now struck out 240 batters in 191.2 innings pitched.
“When your teammates score early runs, it settles you down as a pitcher. Then you just have to execute your pitches,” said Hendrix.
The Lady Eagles record is now 45-8 on the season. They will play in the semifinals on Tuesday, May 1, at 2 p.m. against Columbia College. The best of three series will be played in Walnut Ridge, Ark.
