Lady Eagles Sweep Scots
It was senior night at Williams Baptist College and the Lady Eagles were not going to let Lyon College spoil the festivities. Williams swept the Scots by the scores of 25-19, 25-11, and 25-20 in front of a large and enthusiastic crowd in the Southerland-Mabee Center in Walnut Ridge.
Not only was this the final home match of the season, but it was the final regular season American Midwest Conference match for the Lady Eagles. With the win, they clinched a sixth place finish in the conference and the sixth seed in the AMC tournament which begins November 6. It has yet to be announced who the Lady Eagles' opponent will be in the opening round.
Williams honored three successful seniors after the conclusion of the match. Katie Thomas, Courtney Melvin, and Codie Lancaster were escorted by their families and honored for their service.
All three contributed to the victory last night. Thomas finished second on the team with seven kills while adding an assist. Melvin tied for the team lead with six digs and added a kill and an assist. Lancaster was second on the team with 10 assists. She also had two kills and two digs.
The Lady Eagles record now stands at 21-11 overall and 8-10 in the AMC. They will play a doubleheader in Mayfield, Ky., against Mid-Continent University on Saturday, Nov. 3. The first match will start at 12 p.m. and be followed by the second. Those will be last regular season contests of the season for the Eagles.
