Marmaduke and Riverside Win WBC Tournament
The finals of the 55th annual Williams Baptist College Tournament concluded on Wednesday night in the Southerland-Mabee Center. The girls of Marmaduke and the boys of Riverside each added to their impressive collection of WBC Tourney championships.
The finals had been postponed a week and half due to the recent winter storm.
The Marmaduke Lady Greyhounds ran away with a 63-22 victory over the Corning Lady Bobcats in the girls final. It was the Lady Greyhounds' ninth WBC tournament championship overall and their third straight. Allison Hampton led all scorers with 14 points for Marmaduke and teammate Sidnee Bopp added 11 points.
On the boy's side, the top-seeded Riverside Rebels escaped with a 45-44 victory over the third seeded Pocahontas Redskins. It was the eighth WBC tournament victory overall for Riverside. Devon Austin led Riverside with 11 points, while Victor Cerda and Caleb Waugh contributed 10 points, respectively. Pocahontas was led by Clark Brewington with 13 points. Keith Smith posted 12 points and Nick Smith pitched in with 11 points.
The 2013 Williams Tournament champions, Marmaduke and Riverside, now have a combined 17 titles.
