Midway Point of the Season for Eagles Sports
After another successful week in soccer and volleyball for Williams Baptist College, the Eagles have reached the mid-way point in their respective sports. Both sports are off to the best starts in school history.
Williams volleyball finished the week with three wins and one loss. The team finished the long road trip to Hannibal-LaGrange University with a split after losing the first match in four sets and winning the second match in five sets. The scores for each match were (WBC scores first) 21-25, 25-22, 12-25, 17-25, and 15-25, 25-20, 21-25, 25-22, 15-10.
Friday night the Lady Eagles hosted American Midwest Conference foe Benedictine University-Springfield. Williams won both matches, the first in three sets: 25-8, 26-24, and 25-19. The second match was won in four sets: 21-25, 25-20, 25-17, and 25-20.
Haley Motley finished the week with 40 kills, 86 total attacks, and an attack percentage of 34 percent. All four games were conference matches. Williams is now 17-4 on the season with a conference record of 3-3.
The next match is Monday, October 3, at 3pm against AMC opponent William Woods University. After that, the Lady Eagles’ next home match will be Oct. 14 against Columbia College at 3:00 p.m.
WBC’s soccer team stepped out of conference play and travelled to Paragould to take on Crowley’s Ridge College. The Eagles won by a score of 12-2. Williams was led by Martin Carmona’s school record six goals. Also, Lucas Braga scored three, Edwin Irungu one, Victor Vouga one, and Esteban Piccinini one. The Eagles outshot CRC 38-4. Carmona now ranks first in the NAIA in goals per game and was voted American Midwest Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week.
Williams is now 4-4 on the soccer season. The Eagles will step back on the field on October 8 at Hannibal-LaGrange University. The next home game will be October 11 at 3pm against McKendree University.
