Newell, Hendrix Top List of WBC All-Conference Picks

The Williams Baptist College softball team has made a haul of All-American Midwest Conference honors, including Eric Newell as Coach of the Year and Karisa Hendrix as Freshman of the Year. Six Lady Eagles were named to all-conference squads, and 14 were academic all-conference.

Newell, who has coached the Williams softball team for four seasons, guided the Lady Eagles to a 32-12 overall record and a share of the regular season conference title this year. WBC was 12-4 in conference play.

Hendrix, who is from Cherokee Village, Ark., had a stellar rookie season, going 15-4 in the pitcher’s circle and notching a 1.27 ERA, with an ERA of 0.87 in conference play. She struck out 134 batters this season, against only 33 walks. Hendrix was also selected as NAIA Pitcher of the Week during the season. She is the daughter of Kevin and Michelle Hendrix.

Making first team All-AMC were Kim Emmons, Jill Graham, Hendrix and Marissa Hoehn. Ashley Boyles and Chelsea Sanders were named honorable mention all-conference picks.

Emmons, a junior from Vilonia, Ark., excelled in the pitcher’s circle and at the plate. She had a 10-4 record and a 1.11 ERA as a pitcher this season. She was also a clutch hitter with a .310 batting average, and she was tied for the team lead in RBIs with 32. She is the daughter of Brian and Janice Emmons.

Graham, from Jonesboro, Ark., had a great freshman season, leading the team with a .371 batting average, and she also paced the Lady Eagles with 14 doubles. She is the daughter of Robert & Janis Graham.

Marissa Hoehn

Hoehn, a senior from Farmington, Mo., had a .353 batting average and a .529 slugging percentage. She led Williams in hits with 48 and walks with 14. She is the daughter of Matthew and Joanne Hoehn.

Boyles, a sophomore from Malvern, Ark., had a .341 batting average and a .545 slugging percentage. She also knocked in 25 RBIs. She is the daughter of Jerry and Janet Boyles.

Sanders, a sophomore from Beebe, Ark., had a .317 batting average and .553 slugging percentage. She tied Emmons with a team-leading 32 RBIs. She is the daughter of Sam and Tammy Sanders.

All-conference selections, as well as Coach and Freshman of the Year picks, are made by a vote of conference coaches.

Academic all-conference picks from Williams were: Ashley Boyles, Kelsey Burns, Natalie Culver, Tricia Driver, Karisa Hendrix, Marissa Hoehn, Mallarie Lee, April McCampbell, Brittany Morgan, Kayla Stellato, Conna Strong, Bailey Thomas, Courtanie Vaughn and Hollyann Walker.

All-AMC honors were announced Saturday, May 8.
