PBL Raises Money for Heifer International

2/18/2014

Williams Baptist College’s fourth annual Hunger Awareness Dinner was held Thursday, February 13, in WBC’s Mabee Student Center.  The event raised $671 for the Little Rock-based charity Heifer International and its mission to alleviate world hunger.

The dinner, which was sponsored by the Williams business department’s Phi Beta Lambda chapter, separates guests, at random, into first, second and third world categories.

Those in the first world group receive their full-course meal before the other attendees.  The second world set follows, only various food items have been removed from their menu.  Finally, people in the third-world section obtain their dinner, which only includes an abbreviated portion of the full meal.

The event is modeled in such a way so that its guests may view, on a small scale, the reality of world hunger.

Kevin Hennings of Biggers, Ark., is a member of the school’s PBL chapter and was responsible for organizing the event.  “The Hunger Awareness Dinner was a huge success,” said Hennings.

“It is always an honor to help raise money for Heifer International and the work they do.  I couldn’t be more proud of all the work our PBL chapter put into planning the event and I’m proud to say that we were able to beat our attendance record.  We had a great time raising money for a great cause.”

The PBL group will deliver the donation to Heifer International’s corporate office in Little Rock, when the students travel to the capitol for state competition on April 10.
