Pocahontas, Black Rock Win Tourney Titles

The 2010 Williams Baptist College Tournament is now in the record books, with the girls of Pocahontas and the boys of Black Rock claiming the championships. Both teams entered the tourney as top seeds in their respective brackets.

The Lady Redskins held off a fourth quarter charge by Corning to win the girls’ title game, 75-65. Pocahontas was the runner-up in last year’s tournament.

On the boys’ side, Black Rock won the championship for the second year in a row. The Zebras downed Riverside, 49-41.

All-tournament teams were also announced. The all-tourney squads are selected by a vote of tournament coaches.

The boys’ All-WBC Tournament team was: Joe Paul Carey, Black Rock; Tadd Fore, Black Rock; Khris Foster, Black Rock; Logan Meurer, Riverside; Jake Love, Riverside; Alteeno Sain, Riverside; Austin Gardner, Viola; Justin Watkins, Tuckerman; Jacob Callahan, Pocahontas; Alex Keiffer, Pocahontas; Dylan Wooten, Hillcrest; and Zach Crisler, Hoxie.

Making the girls’ All-WBC Tourney squad were: Hilary Hausmann, Pocahontas; Haley Tyler, Pocahontas; Chelsey Kilbreath, Corning; Whitney Woodard, Corning; Micaela West, Maynard; Ashley Baker, Walnut Ridge; Maggie Carlile, Southside; Michaela Thompson, Viola; Whitney Boggs, Marmaduke; Caley Rossen, Hoxie; MacKenzie Nunally, Hillcrest; and Samantha Blevins, Hillcrest.

Sportsmanship Awards were also presented. This year’s sportsmanship honors went to the Southside boys and the Hillcrest girls.
