The American Midwest Conference has announced that Jeff Rider is the 2010-11 AMC Athletic Director of the Year. Rider, athletic director at Williams Baptist College, was recognized at the conference meeting on August 1st, held at Harris-Stowe State University in St. Louis.
"As I have observed the success of Williams Baptist College's athletic program, the quality of the coaching staff, and the conduct of the athletes, Jeff Rider’s sports teams have been a model of what an NAIA institution is producing in a 'student-athlete,'" stated AMC Commissioner Lowell Pitzer. "He has provided expertise in the AMC by sharing with his colleagues from his experience and modeling how an athletic program should benefit a student in their life's journey."
During the 2010-11 school year Rider has been instrumental in renovations to lighting, scoreboards and fencing for the Eagles and has added a sports information director position and three assistant coaching positions. He has been dedicated to improving all aspects of the Williams athletic in his years at the helm, the conference noted.
"I am excited about this award for Jeff," said WBC President Jerol Swaim. "Not only is it significant for him personally, it is very significant for Williams. Also, I believe it demonstrates how seriously we take athletics, and how seriously we take employing outstanding individuals such as Jeff."
"In a conference where the standard is excellence, it is a great honor to receive this award," Rider stated. "I am very thankful for the ability to work with a president who is very supportive of me and our athletic program. Also, I am very thankful for the opportunity to work with some high-character and talented coaches at Williams. We have and have had a group of coaches at Williams with a passion about their jobs, and this has made my job very enjoyable."
Williams is a four-year, Christian, liberal arts college located at Walnut Ridge, Ark.
