Scholastic Book Fair Underway at Library

Felix Goodson Library at Williams Baptist College is hosting a Scholastic Book Fair November 3-8. Funds raised will help purchase academic books for the library, and donations can also be made to purchase children’s books for an orphanage in Thailand.

Thousands of brand new books are for sale at the Book Fair, according to WBC Director of Library Services Pamela Meridith. The selection will include many children's books, as well as books that adults will enjoy reading.

Books can be bought in person at the library Nov. 3-8. Regular library hours are Monday-Thursday 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Saturday 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m., and Sunday 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.

The Book Fair will also feature a special booth during WBC’s Homecoming/Parents Day festivities on Saturday, Nov. 5. From 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., entrants to the Book Fair's free raffle may win one of the $10 Scholastic Dollar certificates to be redeemed that day in the library.

Those interested can shop online, as well, according to Meridith. They can visit the Book Fair online at http://www.scholastic.com/schoolbookfairs/2995562. The online Book Fair, which features an expanded selection of books, is available for an extended time from October 28 to November 12, and all orders ship to WBC for free. Each purchase benefits the Williams library.

In addition, the One for Books® program created by Scholastic Book Fairs provides opportunity for "loose change" or $1.00 donations for the purchase of children's books to be donated to Connie's Home in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The orphanage is operated by missionaries Richard and Connie Cummins, who are former Williams employees.

Mission Thailand 2012, a joint effort of WBC and Walnut Ridge First Baptist Church, will present the donated books this March when participants travel to the country. Donations can be made at any One for Books® kiosk on the Williams campus or by emailing goodsonlibrary@wbcoll.edu .
