Sculptor to Demonstrate & Display Works at WBC

Sculptor Brian Somerville of Nashville, Tenn., will provide a sculpting demonstration and display his works at Williams Baptist College Thursday, March 1.  Somerville will give a demonstration from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. in WBC’s Maddox Center, room 204, and there will be an exhibition of his work from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. in the Maddox Art Gallery.

Somerville, who works in clay, produces a wide array of sculpted creatures that he simply refers to as “beasts.”

“These beasts are typically sculpted solid in clay, hollowed and obsessively covered with hand carved imagery,” Somerville says in his artist’s statement.  “Influenced by years of experience in set design, large-scale fabrication and themed construction, new generations of work also incorporate a variety of mixed media and sculpting techniques.”

He is currently an artist with Noble Building Group in Nashville.  He has a bachelor in fine arts from the University of Evansville and a master in fine arts from Florida Atlantic University.

The public is invited to the demonstration and exhibition, and there is no charge to attend.
