Soccer Eagles Fall in Close Match with Owls
In a hard fought American Midwest Conference soccer contest between Williams Baptist College and William Woods University, the latter edged out the Eagles by a score of 1-0. The game was played Saturday at Walnut Ridge.
WWU's Marcelo Carreiro pounced on a ball played between two Eagle defenders to score the lone goal five minutes before halftime. It was one of seven shots for the Owls in the contest.
The Eagles had initially put one in the back of the net 14 minutes into the game, but the goal did not count due to an offside call. Williams accumulated 6 shots in the tilt.
"Our guys have improved, but full credit to Woods for finding a way to get one in the net," said Head Coach Shane Stolz.
The loss dropped WBC's record to 1-5 overall and 1-1 in the AMC.
Williams will host Columbia College on Friday, September 28 at 3 p.m. Columbia is ranked ninth in the latest NAIA national poll.
