4/17/2010
The Williams Baptist College softball team has claimed a share of the American Midwest Conference championship. The Lady Eagles swept a conference doubleheader from Stephens on Saturday, while conference leader McKendree was losing to Park. The result is that Williams can do no worse than a tie for the conference crown.
WBC claimed two shutouts over Stephens, winning the first game 5-0 and the second 2-0. Freshman ace Karisa Hendrix pitched both games in their entirety, allowing only one hit over the 14 innings and notching a no-hitter in the second contest. She struck out 12 in game one and got four more strikeouts in game two.
Hendrix is now 6-0 this week, and all were complete game shutouts. All six were also conference games.
Offensively, Marissa Hoehn went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI in game one. Mallarie Lee was 1-for-3 with a triple.
In game two, it was Hoehn going 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Kim Emmons was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
The conference title is the first for Williams in softball.
