Softball Eagles Dominate Conference Honors
The Williams Baptist College softball team has claimed honors for 2013 Player, Pitcher, Newcomer and Coach of the Year from the American Midwest Conference. The Lady Eagles, currently ranked 6th in the nation, also had six athletes named to All-Conference teams.
The AMC announced its 2013 Softball All-Conference team and individual awards Sunday at the conclusion of the 2013 AMC Softball Tournament in Columbia, Mo.
WBC’s Shelby Anderson was named Player of the Year and teammate Karisa Hendrix was selected Pitcher of the Year. It is the third year in a row for Hendrix to win the pitching honor. Mallory Siebert of the Lady Eagles was picked as Co-Newcomer of the Year, sharing the distinction with Jamie Holmes of Columbia College.
Williams Head Coach Eric Newell was named Coach of the Year, his fourth season in a row to take home that honor.
Making First-Team All-Conference from WBC were Hendrix, Anderson, Siebert and Felicia Woodard.
Chosen for the Honorable Mention All-Conference squad were Lady Eagles Lauren Sweeten and Kirsten Gipson.
All of the honorees were chosen by a vote of AMC softball coaches.
The Lady Eagles are currently 40-6 on the season. As regular season champions of the AMC, they have qualified for the NAIA softball tournament for the second year in a row. They will find out this week where they are to play in the first round of the national tourney, which begins May 13th.
