Softball Eagles Hit Top 25
The Lady Eagles softball team has achieved its first ever national ranking. The NAIA released its weekly top 25 rankings Tuesday, and the Williams Baptist College squad is placed 18th in the country.
"This is a great achievement, and our ladies are very excited about it. We came close last year but could never quite get to the top 25, so this is something we’ve wanted to see for quite a while," said head coach Eric Newell.
The Lady Eagles are currently the top team in the American Midwest Conference with a 7-1 conference record. They are 18-6 overall. The squad received votes in the NAIA rankings in previous seasons, but had not been able to break into the top 25 before Tuesday.
Williams split a doubleheader with AMC rival William Woods on Tuesday, losing the first game, 7-1, but bouncing back to take the second contest, 4-3. It was their first win at WWU, which is a perennial softball power in the conference.
WBC’s next home game is April 13, when it hosts McKendree for a pair of games starting at 2:00 p.m.
