Softball Eagles Notch Four Wins in Two Days
The brooms came out again Tuesday at the WBC Softball Field as the Lady Eagles swept a doubleheader from American Midwest Conference foe Hannibal-LaGrange. Williams took the first game, 2-1, and then won the nightcap, 2-0.
It was the second sweep in as many days for the Williams squad, which took two from Harris-Stowe on Monday. The wins left WBC in a statistical tie with McKendree for first place in the AMC.
Karisa Hendrix pitched all four games for the Lady Eagles, allowing no earned runs over the stretch. In the first game Tuesday, she pitched a two-hit gem with nine strikeouts and one unearned run. She followed that up by throwing a shutout in game two with 11 strikeouts and just four hits. She pitched the full seven innings in both contests.
Chelsea Sanders belted a home run to put WBC over the top in game one. In the second game, Jill Graham was 2-for-3 with two steals and a run scored.
On Monday, Williams shut out Harris-Stowe twice, 2-0 and 8-0. Hendrix struck out six and allowed two hits in the first contest, and then struck out five and allowed four hits in the nightcap.
Kim Emmons knocked in three RBIs while going 3-for-4 on the afternoon. Mallory Lee was 4-for-6 with an RBI, and Teighlor Melton was 4-for-7 with an RBI.
Williams is now 26-9 on the year and 10-4 in the AMC. The Lady Eagles are at home again Thursday, hosting Bethel at 2:00 p.m.
