Steeger Named WBC's Distinguished Baptist Minister

Williams Baptist College has presented its 2012 Distinguished Baptist Minister Award to Dr. William Steeger of Paragould, Ark. Steeger, who recently retired as pastor of Paragould First Baptist Church, was presented the honor at WBC’s baccalaureate and commencement exercises Saturday, May 5.

Steeger has spent over 40 years in the ministry, serving as a pastor, missionary and professor. Prior to serving as pastor of Paragould FBC for five years, he was the pastor of Beech Street FBC in Texarkana, Ark., for seven years. He and his family also spent 10 years as missionaries in Africa.

He is a widely respected biblical scholar who taught at Ouachita Baptist University for 13 years, serving as W.O. Vaught Professor of Bible and chair of OBU’s department of religion.

He was presented the Distinguished Baptist Minister honor by Dr. Jerol Swaim, WBC’s president. Steeger also delivered the baccalaureate address to the graduating class.

Williams conferred degrees to 100 graduates during the ceremony. WBC is a four-year, liberal arts college.
