The 13th annual "Story Store" production was held Friday, Feb. 24, at the Walnut Ridge Community Center. The "Story Store" is based on the writings of Gifted and Talented students from northeast Arkansas.

The production is sponsored by William Baptist College and the Northeast Arkansas Educational Cooperative and allows area Gifted and Talented students from the 11 schools served by the NEA Co-op to submit writings, which are acted out by students from WBC.

This year, characters created by the students were submitted to Melinda Williams, assistant professor of speech, drama and journalism at WBC, and she put the characters into a story script. She works with Jill Clogston of the co-op on the production each year.

Instead of presenting two or three stories as Williams has in the past, she took parts of the characters from several students’ writings and compiled them into one play. At least one character from every school was selected.

"By artistic license, the characters were combined so that all the contributions of the writers fit into the six characters in the play," Williams said. "This enabled all the characters to fit into one story."

Lawrence County students whose work was chosen to be included in the play were: Marlie Hufstedler, Sloan-Hendrix; Macy Penn, Walnut Ridge; and Jade Stilger, Hoxie. Following the production, the students whose characters were selected were called on stage for recognition and received an autographed bound copy of the script.

Cast members from WBC were: Katie Harter, Brandt McDonald, Casey Turner, Will Ward, Samantha Linderman, Katie Williams and Jessica Howington.

Katie Williams was the production manager, and Heileigh Miller was assistant production manager.
