Thompson is ASMTA Teacher of the Year
Dr. Christopher Thompson of Williams Baptist College has been named the Arkansas Teacher of the Year by a group of music educators. The award was presented in June by the Arkansas State Music Teachers Association.
Thompson, who is associate professor of music at WBC, has been with the college since 1998. He has bachelor’s and master’s music degrees from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, and he earned his Ph.D. at the University of Wisconsin.
He was surprised with the 2010 Teacher of the Year honor at the annual meeting of the ASMTA, which was held at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.
The Arkansas State Music Teachers Association was founded in 1915. In addition to working for musical advancement in Arkansas, the goals of the ASMTA include developing improved methods of musical instruction, supporting members in establishing standards for music teachers and encouraging education in Arkansas public schools.
