Thompson Receives National Certification from MTNA

Dr. Chris Thompson of the Williams Baptist College music faculty has been accorded a high honor from the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA). Thompson was recently recognized by the group as a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music.

The news was especially meaningful for Thompson and his family, because his mother, Patricia M. Thompson, is also a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music. She lives in the Kansas City area, where she has taught piano for many years.

As noted in its mission statement, MTNA is a nonprofit organization of nearly 24,000 independent and collegiate music teachers committed to furthering the art of music through teaching, performance, composition, and scholarly research. Founded in 1876 and headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio, MTNA is the oldest professional music teachers’ association in the United States.

Thompson, who lives at Walnut Ridge, is associate professor of music at Williams. He has been on the WBC faculty since 1998.
