Trojans Edge Eagles
The Williams Baptist College soccer squad hosted the Trojans from Hannibal-LaGrange University on Saturday in an American Midwest Conference contest. The Trojans were able to earn the crucial victory by a score of 2-0.
The first goal was scored with a pinpoint header by Juan Rodriguez after a cross from Mario Albero in the seventh minute of the contest.
"Giving up an early goal is always tough to overcome, but I was proud of the response from the team," said Head Coach Shane Stolz.
WBC would respond as they put pressure on the HLG defense for the remainder of the half. However, none of their six first half shots found the back of the net.
Hannibal responded in kind in the second half, putting pressure on the Williams defense. The Trojans finally broke through for their second goal with 1:41 remaining in the contest.
"We were throwing more men forward in search of an equalizer, and they caught us out for their second," added Stolz. "I am proud of our team and the fight they showed."
It was senior day and the Eagles honored three players. Hector Vera, Esteban Piccinini and Henry Pineda were recognized before the contest.
The Eagles final game of the season will be Saturday, October 27 at 4 p.m. They will travel to St. Louis, Mo., to play AMC foe Missouri Baptist University.
