WBC Announces 2010 Graduates


Williams Baptist College awarded degrees to 75 graduates during its 2010 baccalaureate and commencement exercises Saturday, May 8.

A crowd of over 1,000 filled WBC’s Southerland-Mabee Center for the ceremony. Dr. Melvin York, pastor of First Baptist Church in Des Arc, Ark., was honored as the 2010 Distinguished Baptist Minister, and he then delivered the address to graduates.

Williams presented an honorary doctorate to Rev. Tommy Hinson of Rogers, Ark. Hinson is a Williams alumnus and former president of the Arkansas Baptist State Convention. He served as pastor at First Baptist Church of West Memphis, Ark., for 26 years and currently is on the staff of Rogers First Baptist Church.

Jacob Guenrich of Olive Branch, Miss., was recognized as the graduate with highest honors. Guenrich had a 3.952 cumulative grade point average, which was the highest in the graduating class.

Honor graduates were recognized as being cum laude (3.5-3.69 cumulative grade point average), magna cum laude (3.7-3.84 GPA) or summa cum laude (3.85-4.0 GPA).
