WBC Freshman Orientation Begins Friday
The 2014 freshman class of Williams Baptist College will move in and begin new student orientation activities, known as Ascend, on Friday, August 22. Williams has been preparing for Ascend for many months, and the orientation staff is ready to welcome a whole new group of freshmen.
“This weekend is a time that many of us have been looking forward to since last spring,” said Susan Watson, WBC’s dean of students. “Our freshmen arrive Friday for Ascend Orientation followed by our returning students Sunday afternoon. Months and months of preparation all come together and it is always great to have students back on campus.”
Mary Norvell, Williams’ freshman advisor and parent liaison, added, “There is always excitement on campus as WBC gears up for the new freshman class. We are so ready for move-in day and to welcome the largest group of freshmen in recent years.”
Students will kick off Ascend by checking in and moving into their residence halls between the times of 8:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. The day will be full of orientation sessions for parents and students, as well as other meetings to help the freshmen settle into WBC. The library, campus bookstore and other offices will also be open throughout the day.
The remainder of the weekend will be full of Ascend activities, including a Memphis Redbirds game, worship in Manley Chapel and a welcome back concert. The annual WBC RidgeRun 5K walk/run was scheduled for Monday afternoon, but it has now been canceled due to excessive heat and risk of injury.
