WBC Mourns Loss of John E. Miller
John Eldon Miller of Melbourne, whose legendary career in the Arkansas legislature spanned 40 years, passed away Wednesday at the age of 85. Miller was a longtime supporter and trustee at Williams Baptist College.
First elected to the Arkansas House of Representatives in 1958, Miller went on to become Speaker of the House, as well as chair of the powerful Revenue and Taxation Committee and Joint Budget Committee. He retired from the legislature in 1998.
Miller was a devout Christian and member of First Baptist Church in Melbourne. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ruby Miller, son, David E. Miller and his wife Janett of Melbourne, and daughters, Naomi Roper of Melbourne and Martha Miller of Little Rock, eight grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Visitation was set for Friday, June 20, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at Ozarka College in Melbourne, with the funeral at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church.
Williams extends its deepest sympathies to John Miller's family and many friends.
