WBC Softball Starts Year in Top 25
The Williams Baptist College softball team will begin the 2012 season ranked 18th in the NAIA. This is the highest ever preseason ranking for the Lady Eagles.
WBC finished last season with a record of 31 wins and 12 losses, and the team was ranked 20th in the country. Williams has won a share of the last two American Midwest Conference regular season championships. It finished the 2011 season as runner ups in the conference tournament. The Lady Eagles return eight starters from last year’s squad.
The 2011 Lady Eagles brought home numerous honors. Head Coach Newell won AMC Coach of the Year, Karisa Hendrix (see photo) won AMC Pitcher of the Year, and the Lady Eagles had five athletes earn all-conference first team or honorable mention recognition.
“It is a tremendous honor to have this distinction for our softball program, but with recognition lays expectations. The team is thrilled with this achievement and is humbled by the recognition, but work still needs to be done,” Newell said.
Columbia College is the only other AMC member in the preseason poll, ranked twenty first.
Williams’ first game of the 2012 campaign will be on February 11 at Blue Mountain College.
