Hwy. 67 is expected to remain closed between Hoxie and Alicia for several days, following a train collision and derailment Sunday.
The Williams Baptist College campus is about eight miles north of Sunday's accident, and WBC was unaffected by the accident. Two freight trains collided in the early morning hours, killing two crew members on the trains and injuring two others.
Residents in the immediate area of the derailment were evacuated. Most had been allowed to return home by Sunday evening.
Those traveling to WBC from the south may have to take detours. Hwy. 67 will be closed from south Hoxie to Alicia while crews clear the derailment wreckage. The railroad tracks are adjacent to the highway where the collision occurred.
North-bound traffic on Hwy. 67 is being routed along Hwy. 226 to Cash, and then northward along Hwy. 18 and Hwy. 91 to Egypt and Walnut Ridge. Drivers are advised to add 15 minutes to their planned travel time due to the detours.
WBC extends its prayers to the injured and to the families of those who lost their lives in the accident.
