The Lady Eagles volleyball team recently inked the commitment of Shawnee Junior College standouts Courtney Melvin and Codie Lancaster.  The pair, who sport impressive athletic and academic honors, helped guide their Shawnee team to a two-year record of 47-22.

Melvin is a defensive specialist from Benton, Ill.  Her accolades include being a 2010 honorable mention all-region defensive specialist and making the 2009 and ‘10 academic all-region squads.  She was also all-conference, All-South, and all-state both her junior and senior years at Benton High School.

“I am extremely excited to have Courtney as a member of our volleyball team next year,” said Williams Head Coach Eric Newell. “Courtney is a great passer and has exceptional instincts on the volleyball court. In addition to being an asset to our volleyball program, she also takes care of business in the classroom.”

Melvin is the daughter of Roger and Becky Melvin of Benton.

Lancaster is a setter from Bell City, Mo.  Her honors include being 2010 1st team all-region and 1st team all-conference, and she was also 2009 and ‘10 academic all-region.  She was all-county, all-district, all-region and all-conference all four years at Bell City High School, as well as being 2nd team all-state her senior year in high school.

Newell commented, “Codie will be a tremendous asset to our volleyball team.  She has good hands, great knowledge of the game, and she brings two years of collegiate volleyball experience.  She also excels in the classroom.”

Lancaster is the daughter of Avis Lancaster of Bell City.

Williams is a four-year, liberal arts college in Walnut Ridge.  The Eagles compete in the American Midwest Conference of the NAIA.
