WBC Women Host AMC Tourney Game Wednesday
The Lady Eagles basketball team will host a first round American Midwest Conference tournament game Wednesday night, Feb. 29. The WBC women finished the regular season in third place in the conference, and they will play sixth seeded Harris-Stowe at 7 p.m. in the Southerland-Mabee Center.
Game dates for the tournament are set by the AMC and all ticket proceeds go to the conference, so Williams will not be able to honor its regular season passes. Cost will be $5 general admission and $2 for students. WBC is paying admission for its students, so they can attend the game for free with a current student ID.
The Lady Eagles secured the third seed Saturday when they outlasted Stephens College, 65-57, at Walnut Ridge to conclude their regular season schedule.
The Lady Eagles built a comfortable halftime lead, 41-22, against Stephens, but cold shooting in the second stanza kept WBC from pulling away. Williams shot just 39 percent from the field for the game, but the Lady Eagles’ defense held the Stars to 30 percent shooting to keep them at bay.
Kala Tyus paced Williams with 17 points, followed by Becky Caldwell, who had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Olivia Morris pulled down 14 boards for WBC.
It was the last regular season game of the year for Williams, and seniors Caldwell, Brianna Johnson, Morris, Jessica Shepard, Kim Sutterfield and Tyus were recognized before the contest.
