Williams Awards Doctorate to Hinson

Williams Baptist College has awarded an honorary doctorate to Rev. Tommy Hinson of Rogers, Ark. Hinson was presented the doctor of divinity degree during WBC’s graduation exercises Saturday, May 8.

Hinson has served 63 years in the ministry, most of it in Arkansas. He was pastor for 26 years at West Memphis First Baptist Church, and he is a former president of the Arkansas Baptist State Convention, as well as a former vice president of the Southern Baptist Convention. He currently serves on the staff of Rogers First Baptist Church.

He is a 1949 graduate of WBC. He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree at Baylor University and his master’s at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Hinson was presented his degree and doctoral hood by Dr. Jerol Swaim, the president of Williams.

Williams is a four-year, liberal arts college at Walnut Ridge.
