Williams Cruises in Home Tri-Match
by Caleb Livingston
The Williams Baptist College volleyball team had an easy time Tuesday in a home tri-match with Mid-Continent University and local rival Crowley's Ridge College. With the victories, the Lady Eagles move to 13-14 overall.
In the first match against Mid-Continent, WBC had an easy go of it winning 25-9, 25-20 and 25-21. The Lady Eagles were rarely tested throughout the first game as they cruised to the easy win. Games two and three got a little tougher, but Williams managed the easy victories while playing a lot of their subs.
Haley Motley led Williams with a match high 11 kills, followed by Caitlin Wakefield with seven and Bailey Stanley with six kills apiece. Makenna Wiedower was again steady at setter with a match high in assists with 17 and digs with 12. Wakefield and Kelsey Davault also had good nights defensively with 11 and 10 digs respectively.
WBC cruised to an even easier victory against CRC, winning 25-6, 25-11 and 25-20. Williams was sharp early in the match, jumping out to big leads in both the first and second sets on their way to easy set wins. In the third set CRC put up a fight, but it was not enough as the Lady Eagles took a convincing win.
Bailey Stanley and Brittney Dyer each had six kills to lead WBC in a balanced attack. Wiedower and Jill Graham both had an outstanding night setting the ball for WBC. Wiedower finished with 19 assists and Graham had 17 for the match. Davault again had an outstanding defensive performance with a match high 18 digs.
Williams returns to action this Friday and Saturday going on the road for an American Midwest Conference match at McKendree and a tri-match at Hannibal-LaGrange on Saturday. They return to the Southerland-Mabee Center Tuesday, Oct. 26, to host William Woods University at 6:00 p.m.
