Williams Hosts Lyon Tonight

Williams Baptist College will host Lyon College Tuesday evening for both men’s and women’s basketball games.  Williams fans are hoping to paint the gym blue with a “blue out”.  A “blue out” is where all the fans in the crowd are encouraged to wear all blue.

The Lady Eagles will jump on the court against the Scots at 5:30 p.m.  The Scots have a record of seven wins and two losses, and have won four games in a row, including an upset of 17th ranked Columbia College.  The Lady Eagles record stands at four wins and three losses with a two game winning streak.  Lyon’s women won their first meeting with WBC this year, 73-67.

The Scotts have won games this season with their tough defense.   They are ranked in the top 25 in the NAIA in multiple defensive categories.  They are 15th in shooting defense percentage and 14th in scoring defense.  They are allowing a mere 54.333 points per contest.

The Lady Eagles are hoping to combat the Scots’ tough defense with solid rebounding. Currently, WBC is first in the country in defensive rebounds per game, eighth in the country in total rebounds per game, and 19th in the country in total rebound margin.

In the men’s game, the Scots versus the Eagles will tip-off at 7:30 p.m.  The two teams met earlier in the year at Lyon, where the Scots were able to hold onto an 86-80 margin for the win.

Lyon’s record sits at five wins and three losses, including a win against the 14th ranked team in the NAIA, Columbia College.  The Scots are ranked 22nd in the country in 3-pt field goal percentage.  They are led by 6’6” sophomore C.J. Blount, who averages 13.63 points per game.  Blount scored 24 points the first time these teams took the court against each other this season.

The Eagles now hold a record of two wins and four losses.  Junior forward Kyle Harvey leads the Eagles in scoring this season.  He averages 16.33 points per game.  Freshmen guard Jake Veasley scored 21 points in the match-up between the teams earlier this season.
