Williams Picks Up Honors from AMC

The American Midwest Conference has released its basketball awards for the 2011-2012 season.  Williams Baptist College men and women are well represented on the All-AMC teams, as well as the academic all-conference squad.  

Senior point guard Jessica Shepard was selected as first team all-conference.  Shepard is from Leachville, Ark., and has been a four-year starter for the Lady Eagles.  She averaged 8.8 points, 3.89 rebounds, 3.41 assists, and 1.48 steals per game in her final season. She also finished the year ranked third in the NAIA in 3-point field goal percentage at 44 percent.  

Making the honorable mention all-conference squad was Kala Tyus.  Tyus is a senior post player from Maury City, Tenn.  She led the Lady Eagles in scoring with 10.81 points a game, and she also contributed with 4.37 rebounds per contest.

On the men’s side, Kyle Harvey was voted first team all-conference by the AMC coaches.  Harvey led the AMC in scoring at 17.22 points per game, this ranked 31st in the NAIA.  He also led WBC in rebounds per game at 5.22, steals with 1.19, and blocks at .56 per game.  Harvey is a junior forward from Corning, Ark.

Williams had eight Lady Eagles make the academic all-conference team.  Becky Caldwell of Fairview, Tenn., Meagan Goza of Lake City, Ark., Olivia Morris of Melbourne, Ark, Kylie Oertel of Fredricktown, Mo., Shepard, Kim Sutterfield of Calico Rock, Ark., Katie Thomas of Mountain Home, Ark., and Haley Tyler of Pocahontas, Ark., all received the honors.
