Williams Volleyball Hosts Tourney Match Tonight
The Williams Baptist College volleyball squad has already achieved its best winning percentage in team history, and Tuesday will mark another first for the Lady Eagles as they host a match in the American Midwest Conference Tournament.
Williams will take on William Woods University at 7 p.m. Tuesday in WBC’s Southerland-Mabee Center. Despite considerable success in recent years, the volleyball Eagles had never secured a home playoff spot until this season.
"It’s great because it’s something we talked about in the preseason. We knew we had a good team and we knew we had a shot, so it’s very rewarding to achieve that. Now, we just want to make sure we don’t let the opportunity slip away," said head coach Eric Newell.
The Lady Eagles come into the AMC tournament as the fourth seed, while WWU is seeded fifth. The victor will advance to Thursday’s semifinals, taking on the winner of a match between Columbia College and Benedictine University-Springfield.
At 27-8 overall, the volleyball Eagles have already secured the best winning percentage in team history. They are tied for number of wins with the 2008 squad that went 27-11, meaning a victory against William Woods on Tuesday would also set the record for most wins in a season.
WBC swept the Owls in the regular season, winning both ends of a doubleheader Oct. 3 at Walnut Ridge.
