Youth Ministry Days Are March 27 & 28
The annual Youth Ministry Days at Williams Baptist College have been set for March 27 and 28. The event, which is held for youth ministers and others who lead youth in churches, will feature Scott Stevens, a noted expert in student ministry.
"Dr. Scott Stevens comes to us with a wealth of student ministry experience. He has been a student minister, WorldChangers leader, international missions trip participant and leader, taught Student Ministry at Howard Paine University at Brownwood, TX, and was most recently the director of LifeWay's student ministry work," said Dr. Walter Norvell of the WBC Christian ministries faculty, who coordinates Youth Ministry Days.
"Beyond his professional work, Scott is a dad of teens. We could hardly find a more experienced speaker for our 2012 Youth Ministry emphasis," Norvell added.
The event will begin with a community-wide session for youth ministers, volunteer leaders and parents the evening of Tuesday, March 27th. It will be held from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in the Moody Room of WBC’s Mabee-Gwinup Cafeteria, and it is open to all churches and denominations.
A series of four sessions will be held on Wednesday, March 28th, starting at 8:00 a.m., also in the Moody Room. Those sessions will last 50 minutes each and will explore in depth issues and challenges relating to student ministry.
"In recent years youth and student ministry has come under increasing scrutiny as study after study reveals the demanding challenge of designing a student ministry that has lasting effects in the lives of young adults after student ministry is over for them," Norvell noted.
"We are asking, ‘What keeps teens in the faith after they become young adults?’ The answers to that question are few, but the answers show us the need for developing strategic ministry with teens which includes them in significant ways in the church. Our emphasis this year is to consider how to be strategic in youth ministry."
The public is invited to all sessions, and there is no charge to attend. Lunch will be provided to all off-campus guests on March 28th, but a courtesy RSVP is requested for an accurate lunch count.
