On May 22, 2010, nine students from Williams Baptist College and one from Arkansas State, traveled to Leon, Nicaragua. We had no idea what to expect, but we knew that God had put it on our hearts to be there. What God did during that week changed our lives forever. When the week began we were a group of individuals, but by the end we realized we were a team of co-laborers working for one goal, speaking the Gospel to those who have never heard it. We were all challenged to share our faith, and for some it was the first time they had done so. They grew in their confidence and it was awesome to see.
One of the girls on our team stuttered and was extremely nervous about sharing her testimony and her faith. On Wednesday night it was her turn to give her testimony at one of the local churches. She made it through and did a great job, but her self-assurance was shaken. She then began to question if God was really calling her to the mission field. But Thursday, was a new day. During the pouring rain, she went with a small group to do street evangelism in a village outside of Leon. She stuttered as she began to share with someone, but the other members of her group began praying for her. She immediately stopped stuttering. She made it through the Gospel presentation without stuttering and the person she was talking to received God’s free gift of salvation.
That is just one story of God’s amazing power during our trip. God proved he was mightier than our circumstances and many lost souls were won for the Kingdom. Many of our students have brought the confidence they gained in sharing the gospel back with them and are ready to do the same here. They are also looking forward to going back to Leon next summer.
