The Federal Work-study Program or FWS provides funds for part-time employment to help needy student to finance the costs of postsecondary education. Students must file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as a part of the application for FWS assistance. The FAFSA can be completed on the Web at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov.
To apply for work-study:
1. Fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which will determine if you are eligible for federal work-study.
2. Fill out Williams' Federal Work-Study Program Assignment Questionnaire.
Written authorization is provided to the student to give to their respective supervisors. This authorization form is given to the student by The Financial Aid Office. Work-study earnings are not applied to a students charges at the beginning of the semester. Students are paid once a month on hours that were worked in the previous month.
For example, for the month of September, if a student worked 6 hours per week between September 2, 2012 and September 29, 2012; a check for 24 hours would be ready for the student in the Business Office by October 10th.
Timecards must be filled out by the student and his/her work-study supervisor and turned into the Financial Aid Office every Friday. Work-study checks can be picked up in the Business Office located in the Administration Building. Students will be given the option of applying any or all of their workstudy checks to their current charges of tuition, room/board, and fees.
Written evaluations of job performance will be filled out at the end of the spring semester and will be kept in the student's file for future job references.
