The Williams Baptist College softball team arrived at Gulf Shores, Ala., Tuesday evening to prepare for the NAIA National Tournament. Williams, which is ranked 14th in the NAIA, begins play in the tournament at 10 a.m. Thursday against Webber International University of Florida.
Wednesday will be a day for practice as the Lady Eagles get acclimated to the Gulf Shores Sportsplex, where the tournament is to be held. Meetings for coaches and others involved in the tournament are also slated for Wednesday.
The first phase of the national tourney is pool play, with teams divided into pools of four. Williams is in Pool C. In addition to Thursday’s contest against Webber International, the Lady Eagles will play Thomas University, a Georgia school, Friday at 2:30 p.m., and they take on Oklahoma City University on Saturday at 5 p.m.
The team that emerges as the winner of each pool moves on to the Elite Eight. Those teams will compete in double elimination play starting next week.
WBC is 49-9 overall this season, setting a team record for victories. The Lady Eagles won the American Midwest Conference regular season title and received an automatic bid to the national tournament by winning the AMC Tournament.
